are you crate training your puppy?  When you crate your pup remember to put in an indestructable chew toy for teething.  The best hollow toy that can be stuffed with peanut butter or cream cheese is the Kong.  Try it frozen!  Put the toy inside the crate with the door closed a few minutes before you are ready to leave.  Dogs seem to want what they can’t have!  When you open the crate to put your pup inside he will want it even more.

what is that stuff

to answer a common question, the treats we use for training are the Natural Balance Beef Roll by Dick Van Patten.  We find that slicing some up and freezing works well when you cut up small bits as you need them.  Keep some on hand for your at home training sessions and see what success you achieve.  You can find them here or at a local pet supply.  Pet recommended!

have you seen our dogs out somewhere doing a class?  If you happened to pass by us and saw a row of well behaved dogs doing a sit stay or recalls across a field of distractions or maybe doing some nice downtown walking, that was the Good Manners Class.  We had 2 great sessions this summer proofing the basics under off site conditions.  Everyone enjoyed the fun swim time after the dog park session!  Catch the next session  and see what your dog really knows when put to the test.

back to school

The kids are going back, so why not sign your dog up for an obedience class this fall.  Registration is under way now.  Does your dog think he is too cool for school?  Well then how about a private obedience lesson here at the facility?  You can work individually with the trainer on the dreaded leash walking or the run away recalls and get back on track with their obedience after the summer free for all.   Let’s get everyone out walking and enjoying fall this year.

seen a Canine Search & Rescue demo?  Emma & Abbey the German Shepherds were amazing as we caught up with them at Beardsley Zoo last week for a presentation.  Ok, so their handlers Chris & Cathy (the Green Girlz) were there too!  They showed us how they search for a missing child & a cadaver recovery.   We hope you never need them, but it’s great to know they are ready if you do.  Thanks girls- and remember to tell a friend where you go hiking, bring a compass and water everytime.
